Everesting FAQs

If you have a question and do not see it answered in this list, please reach out and we would be happy to help.

Food, Services, & Vendors

  • Lunch is provided for climbing participants by Cafe Domestique (wrap, cookie and a coffee). Spectators, and road riders will be able to purchase lunch at our on-site BBQ. Remember to bring your own fueling and nutrition needs for the duration of the day.

  • Please bring your own food for the whole day. The lunch provided to individuals doing the Summit Challenge will not be enough to fuel you through a full day of riding.

  • There will be mechanics on site to assist with any technical issues and get you rolling again as soon as possible.

  • You only need to bring lights if you plan to attempt a Solo Everest for the early morning and the evening. We recommend a bright white front light and a flashing red rear tail light. Not sure what lights to use? Visit us in the shop and we can provide more guidance.

  • There will be a number of vendors on site and we will update you more on this as details are locked down.

Fifty Road Access & Parking

  • It will be closed to most traffic. This is a SOFT road closure. Neighbours are still legally allowed to use the road to come and go from their homes. They have been informed of our event and asked to minimize their use, but like on any road, we have to work hard to share the road and be kind.

  • Fifty Road will be closed as of 4:00 am on October 5th which means that you will not be able to drive up Fifty Road to get to the parking at the top of the hill. Access the event via Ridge Road and take McNeilly Road or Woolverton Road to get to the top of the hill. Participant and spectator parking is available south of Ridge Road on 11th Road East

  • Participants will park south of Ridge Road on 11th Road. We will have a rider tent where you can leave your bags and other items. We recommend labeling all your items. We will offer shuttles to bring your things from the parking to the rider tent.

Fundraising

  • If you are doing the Summit Challenge then yes. Participants who signed up for the Solo or Team Summit Challenges are expected to raise a minimum of $250 each to gain access to the climb. This is a fundraising event and your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Your effort in fundraising will help provide needed transportation for low-income individuals, mechanical skills to youth, cycling fluency for children, mobility for seniors, and access to bicycles in remote communities. You can learn more about some of our programs here.

  • You can continue to take donations right up to the event and even after.

Solo & Team Summit Challenge

  • Not at all. Only a handful of people will attempt it. You set your own goals and targets.

Many people choose to accomplish Everest as a team of up to 5 people.

  • Most riders attempting an Everest Solo begin riding at around 4:30/5:00am and complete their ride around 11:00pm.

  • This is entirely up to you. You can keep track of the number of climbs you do in your head but most people will focus on meters of climbing and rely on a bike computer to share that information with them.

  • This is entirely up to you. Many enjoy riding with their team. It's not a relay so you don't have to take turns, you can challenge each other while riding side by side. The Team also does not need to ride together if someone needs a break but your team elevation gain is combined total of each member’s contribution.

  • Solo the mountain climb of your choosing. We've shared a list of mountain ascents to inspire you, but you choose your own goal!

120k Road Ride with Ascent Cycling

  • Roughly 5 hours (back by 1pm). This is a fast group ride. If you get a mechanical, the whole group will keep riding. You are expected to have the route, and catch back up at the stops.

  • We will regroup at 36km at the end of Stoney Creek Rd. in York. We will also have a food stop in Dunnville at 75km.

  • Our pace will be 30km/h minimum until until stop #1. After that, we may split into two groups depending on how the first part goes. There will likely be a faster section along River Rd. into Dunnville, and then another faster segment at the end of the ride. This is not a slow ride for beginners.

  • There will be a few busy road crossings. Please keep follow all traffic laws and listen to ride leaders. Only cross when it's safe for the whole group.

  • Technically, no. We do not want to drop anybody but if you get a mechanical, the whole group will keep riding. You are expected to have the route, and catch back up at the stops.

  • No. In order to plan for a safe ride for all participants, managing the group size and planning the ratio of group ride leads to participants is coordinated prior to the day.
